It is situated in the southern part of the Rhodopes on a rocky, cone-shaped peak 2 km from the village of Bashevo and about 100 m over the Arda River level.
The river encompasses the fortress from three sides. Only the citadel (the inner stronghold), with dimensions 50 m by 40 m, is preserved. The walls rise to a height of 6 m and the thickness at the foundation is 2.50 m. It used to be supplied with water from the river through an underground tunnel.
