Kocherinovo
The Kocherinovo Municipality is situated in the southwestern part of the Republic of Bulgaria (Kyustendil district) on both sides of the middle course of the Strouma River. The relief is varied comprised of mountains, hollows, gorges and river valleys. The mountainous and semi-mountainous territories occupy 44.52 % of the total area of the Municipality. 14 micro-dam lakes have been constructed in Kocherinovo Municipality. The municipality is crossed by main road Е -79 Sofia - Koulata, which is also the only road to the Rila Monastery. Railway transport is also developed and it includes the Sofia - Athens railway line. An optic cable Sofia - Greece passes through the Municipality.
A major problem of the Municipality is the waste collection and the lack of companies to process the waste. The location of the Municipality on the main road to the Rila Monastery is conducive to the development of hotel and catering activities. Large numbers of Bulgarian and foreign tourists pass through Kocherinovo town every day.
