Mount Bogdan is named after the legendary haiduk Bogdan voyvoda and with its height of 1604 m is the highest peak in Sredna Gora (situated in Central Bulgaria between Stara Planina and the Gornotrakiyska /Upper-Thracian/ plain) it is surrounded by forests from all sides, but in northern and southern direction beautiful views to the mounts Barikadi (Barricades) and Valk (Wolf) open up. Huge rocks covered with moss and geranium and named Detelinova (Clover) Cave loom dark in the southern foot of the mountain amidst the beech forest. The rivers Piasachnik, Kriva reka (Crooked river) and Luda Yana (Mad Yana) rise from Mount Bogdan.
