The Slivnitsa municipality is located in South-West Bulgaria in Sofia District. The Municipality consists of town of Slivnitsa and 12 villages. It is a distance of 25 km from Sofia. Its territory is traversed by trans-European highway А-1 /Е-80/ Belgrade - Kalotina - Sofia - Plovdiv- Kapitan Andreevo. The railway line Sofia - Blagoevgrad follows the same direction. The nearest border control point is at 25 km in Kalotina village, on the border with the Republic of Serbia and Montenegro. Several manmade water basins have been built in the Municipality, namely: Slivnitsa Dam Lake - 36,000 sq.m, Bratoushkovo Dam Lake - 185,000 sq.m and Radoulovtsi reservoir - 79,000 sq.m.

Subject of tourist interest in the Municipality are the monuments connected to the victory of the young Bulgarian army in the Serbian - Bulgarian war of 1885 and the Unification of Bulgaria. An interesting natural phenomenon is the gorge of the Pekluk River. At a distance of 6 - 7 km to the west of Slivnitsa town a sanctuary to the Greek god Asclepius Limenos was found.
